Understanding the Menstrual Cycle Through Learning, Discussion and Creativity
Women’s Health & Wellness Awareness Activity | 16 September 2026
At Dabhoi Community Foundation, we believe that creating awareness about women’s health begins with open conversations, accurate information, and opportunities to learn together. As part of our health and wellness initiatives, a group learning activity was conducted with women to help them understand the four phases of the menstrual cycle and the physical and emotional changes that may occur throughout the cycle.
Learning Through Group Participation
The women were divided into four groups, with each group assigned one phase of the menstrual cycle:
Menstrual Phase
Follicular Phase
Ovulation Phase
Luteal Phase
Each group explored information about its assigned phase and discussed the changes that can occur during that stage. Rather than simply listening to information, the participants worked together to understand the topic and communicate what they had learned.
Using large sheets of paper, colours and drawings, the groups created visual representations of the menstrual cycle and its different stages. Some groups illustrated the reproductive system and menstrual cycle, while others used diagrams and labels to explain the changes associated with their assigned phase.
Learning Through Creativity
The activity created an engaging environment where participants could learn, discuss, ask questions and express their understanding through art. Working in groups encouraged women to share their knowledge and experiences while learning from one another.
The drawings became a simple and effective way to explain topics that can sometimes be difficult to discuss openly. Through this hands-on approach, participants were able to connect information with visual examples and gain a clearer understanding of how the menstrual cycle progresses from one phase to another.
Building Awareness and Confidence
The session was not only about understanding the biological process of menstruation. It also encouraged women to become more comfortable discussing menstrual health and recognising that changes in the body can be a natural part of the menstrual cycle.
The active participation of the women reflected their interest in learning more about their health. The group-based format also encouraged peer learning, communication, teamwork and confidence.
Creating Spaces for Open Conversations
Menstrual health education plays an important role in promoting informed conversations around women’s health and well-being. Activities like this provide a safe and interactive space where participants can learn together, clarify their understanding and share knowledge within their communities.
Through such initiatives, Dabhoi Community Foundation continues to promote health awareness, knowledge and informed decision-making among women and girls, helping create communities where conversations about health can take place openly and respectfully.
Every conversation creates awareness. Every learning experience builds confidence. And every informed woman strengthens her community.
