1 min read

At the Verai Mata Vasahat Centre, under the After-School Programme, children participated in an engaging hands-on learning activity using colourful geometric shapes. Through this creative exercise, students explored mathematical concepts by arranging different shapes and creating beautiful symmetrical patterns.

Using colourful geometric pieces such as circles, triangles, squares, and hexagons, children designed intricate patterns resembling rangoli. The activity transformed basic mathematical concepts into an enjoyable, interactive learning experience.

Making Mathematics Fun and Meaningful

The activity focused on developing essential mathematical and cognitive skills through practical exploration:

  • Understanding Geometric Shapes: Children learned to identify and differentiate between various shapes, including circles, triangles, squares, and hexagons, through hands-on interaction.

  • Exploring Symmetry and Balance: By arranging shapes around a central point, children discovered the concept of symmetry and learned how balanced patterns can be created.

  • Learning Colours and Patterns: Combining yellow and pink shapes encouraged children to recognise colours, understand colour combinations, and create visually appealing designs.

  • Developing Concentration and Creativity: Selecting, positioning, and arranging different shapes helped strengthen children's concentration, problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking.

Learning Beyond Textbooks

This activity demonstrated how simple educational materials can make learning more engaging and effective. By experimenting with different shapes and patterns, children developed a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts while expressing their creativity.

At Dabhoi Community Foundation, we believe that every child learns differently. Through interactive and activity-based learning, our After-School Programme creates opportunities for children to explore, experiment, and develop essential skills with confidence.

Learning becomes more meaningful when children can see, touch, create, and experience it themselves.
